Summary
Lufthansa continues to be the world’s largest operator of the Boeing 747 in passenger service.
Despite production of the Jumbo Jet ending in early 2023, and no passenger examples delivered since 2017, the era of this prestigious and famous airliner is certainly on the way out.
However, with the 747-800 still considered a modern, capable and efficient aircraft, it will likely remain in service with airlines like Lufthansa, Air China and Korean Air for a number of years to come.

Lufthansa’s 747 Fleet
At present Lufthansa still operates a fleet of both 747-400 and -800 models, with the older models expected to be replaced by the Boeing 777-9 when eventually delivered (currently expected at some point in 2025).
In total, some 25 passenger Boeing 747s remain in service with Lufthansa.
