A new airline is taking to the skies in Scandinavia this spring—and it’s good news for regional aviation enthusiasts.

Swedish start-up Sola Air is set to begin operations on April 28, offering rare Saab 340 flights between Karlstad and Copenhagen, with additional seasonal services to Visby and connections to Stockholm Arlanda planned.

This marks a significant development for fans of this classic turboprop aircraft. The Saab 340, once a common sight across Europe, has become a relative rarity in commercial service. With Sola Air operating these 36-seat aircraft on scheduled services, passengers now have another chance to experience this iconic type.

About Sola Air

Founded as a private venture by entrepreneur Lars Wingefors, Sola Air is based in Karlstad and aims to boost connectivity in the Värmland region. “We see a great need for improved connections to and from Karlstad,” said Wingefors. “With Sola Air, we aim to provide excellent service and reliable travel options that facilitate both business and everyday life.”

The airline will initially offer daily weekday flights between Karlstad and Copenhagen Kastrup, ideal for business travellers and those making international connections. Flights to Visby will be added during Almedalen Week, a major political event in Sweden.

The launch also comes with a promotional offer: passengers booking the inaugural Karlstad–Copenhagen route will receive their next trip free.

At present, the Sola Air fleet comprises:
