Malta spotter Ray has been in touch to give an update on the Malta Airport spotting and viewing areas.
Â
This new Terminal Viewing Area overlooks the main parking apron used by airliners at the terminal.
It is good for viewing all movements at the terminal, and aircraft using the main runway.Â
The viewing area is surrounded by glass, so you’ll be photographing through this. It is best to take photos here early morning due to the sun’s position.
It has benches and areas of shade, and is accessed from within the terminal where you can buy refreshments and find out arrival and departure information.
Another, preferred place for spotting at Malta Airport is the Spotters Wall opposite the airport terminal.
This is an elevated, open air viewing area which is best for photography in the afternoon.
You can reach it by walking or driving through the tunnel underneath the runway, then turning left at the roundabout. Keep walking to the spotter’s wall.Â
Most of the best photographs from Malta come from this location, where you have views of aircraft using both runway 13 and 31 directions.

Thanks to Ray Biagio Pace for this information and the photographs here.

Where does Ray suggest is a good hotel for spotting? There are now direct flights starting from my local Airport London Southend so I am thinking of spending a week in Malta with my wife. Ten minutes from home to the terminal and normally few delays going through security so very different to the larger London airports.
Hello Matt,
Thanks for this update.
Hope to seeing you once out in the “meat space”
