Grand Hyatt SFO Spotting Hotel

A great option for plane spotting at San Francisco is the relatively new Grand Hyatt SFO hotel.

This recently came to my attention when I saw the views posted by a spotter from their bathroom at the hotel.

I’ve since been in contact with the hotel, who confirm they have great views of the aircraft at San Francisco International from many of their rooms, and have shared these pictures to demonstrate.

The hotel is located near the entrance to the passenger terminal area at SFO, easily reached from Hwy 101.

It has 351 rooms over various floors, with most offering views of the airport and San Francisco Bay.

You can even use the airport’s AirTrain, which has a stop inside the lobby of the hotel.

The Views

The hotel told us: “For great plane spotting views, guest should book our runway view rooms on our website www.grandhyattatsfo.com .

These rooms have stunning views of SFO and in the room we have a plane spotting guide including binoculars.

You’ll be able to take photographs from the rooms, through glass, of the taxiways and gate areas at the airport. With binoculars and flight tracking apps or websites, you should be able to log all movements, as runway operations can be seen in the distance.

San Francisco International

SFO is one of the USA’s busiest airports, with aircraft arriving from all over the globe, as well as a strong domestic route network.

The airport recently opened a new observation area known as the Sky Terrace on top of Terminal 2. It is located before the security checks, so you don’t need to be flying to use it.

Our thanks to the team at the Grand Hyatt SFO hotel for providing these pictures.
