Azul was founded in 2008 by David Neeleman, the entrepreneur behind JetBlue Airways and Breeze Airways. The airline entered the Brazilian market with a low-cost model aimed at connecting cities that lacked direct air service. Azul’s first flights launched in December 2008, operating Embraer E-Jets. Over the years, the airline expanded its route network, fleet, and international footprint, offering flights to destinations in the United States, Europe, and South America.
Azul merged with regional carrier TRIP Linhas Aéreas in 2012, strengthening its domestic reach. Today, it is one of Brazil’s largest airlines, competing with GOL and LATAM in the highly competitive Brazilian aviation market.
