Air Europa has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 direct from the manufacturer.
This is the first example of the 787 to be operated purely by Air Europa (it is on lease from SMBC Aviation Capital), however the airline has been operating the type for over a year using a leased example from LOT Polish Airlines.
That leased aircraft can now return to its owner as Air Europa begins flying its own aircraft on its long-haul routes out of Madrid.
According to our 787 Routes Page, Air Europa flies the 787 from Madrid to Miami, New York and Santo Domingo, plus occasional domestic services.
The delivery of Air Europa’s first 787 has also seen a redesign of the airline’s livery to an all blue-and-white scheme. The aircraft is registered EC-MIG (c/n 36412/397).
Air Europa announced an order for 14 787-9 Dreamliners in 2015, the largest ever Boeing widebody order from a Spanish carrier. Air Europa now has a combined total of 22 787-8s and 787-9s on order as it continues its transition to an all-Boeing long-haul fleet.
