Air Seoul is a new low-cost carrier in South Korea which begins flying today.

The airline is a subsidiary of Asiana Airlines and will enter service on the world’s busiest air route, between Seoul Gimpo and Jeju. Its four daily services will replace some of Asiana’s services on the route.

Air Seoul will operate three Airbus A321 aircraft leased from Asiana, but wearing its own green and white livery.

Air Seoul’s entry in the South Koean LCC market increases the number of players from five to six, which means the industry will face fierce competition.

Asiana Airlines, which also operates Air Busan, has been strong in mid- to long-distance flights, but it has been pressured by the growth of LCCs.
