Last Delta DC-9 flight on 6th January

Delta will retire its Douglas DC-9 fleet on 6th January following the final commercial flight.

The flight will operate, subject to last minute changes, from Minneapolis St. Paul to Atlanta at 1620.

This will be the last commercial passenger flight of a DC-9 in the USA – a type that was once formed a major part of the fleets of the airlines of the USA.

Delta inherited its fleet of DC-9s from its merger with Northwest Airlines, and it has continued to fly to a number of destinations from its hubs in Atlanta, Minneapolis and Detroit, despite competition from more fuel efficient types. It will be a sad day for many enthusiasts when it is finally retired.
