Despite heavy sanctions on its air transport industry, and a severe lack of available aircraft and parts, a new airline has still managed to launch operations in Iran this week.
Yazd Air flew its first flight on 17 February between Tehran to Yazd using a BAe 146-300 aircraft recently purchased from Mahan Air.
The airline has launched with significant backing and hopes to initially operate five aircraft on both domestic and international services. One of its main purposes is to attract inbound visitors to the Yazd region, whose old city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.

Initial routes planned by Yazd Airlines include:
- Yazd – Dubai International, UAE
- Yazd – Istanbul, Turkey
- Yazd – Mashad
- Yazd – Mumbai, India
- Yazd – Najaf, Iraq
- Yazd – Tehran Imam Khomeini

Yazd Air Fleet
The initial fleet to be operated by Yazd Air is:
- 1x BAe 146-300 (EP-MOM)
- 2x Airbus A310-300
- 2x Embraer 145
The A310 aircraft have also been sourced from Mahan Air, whilst the E145s were recently imported into the country from an unknown source.
