The Views

For the best views you need to be on the top floor, and in an even-numbered room. Ask for one facing the airport and the staff should be able to help you out.

From these rooms you have a view over the dock and the airport, with the threshold of runway 09. Aircraft approaching this runway will pass by the room, and any departing runway 27 will also pass, albeit at a higher level.

You can also see the main parking apron and the smaller executive aircraft parking apron at the western end.

Aircraft on the ground are too far away to photograph, but you might get some good shots of those approaching runway 09, and with good binoculars you should be able to identify most aircraft fairly easily.

Around the Hotel

There are plenty of amenities around the hotel, including places to eat and drink. You can also take a stroll around the dock to get closer to London City where there are positions to photograph aircraft at closer quarters.

We flew into LCY last September from Belfast in a FLYBE Q400, very enjoyable approach and landing and able to photograph all on the ramp, so yes very enjoyable experience.
So now have flown through all the London airports, LHR/LGW/LTN/LCY and STN.
Not sure why Southend keeps calling itself a ”London ” airport when it is clearly not, just like Oxford tried to do a few years back.
