San Jose is the third largest airport in the San Francisco Bay area, after SFO and Oakland.
Today, Southwest Airlines is a major carrier, offering many low-cost flights. Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air China, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Hainan Airlines and Volaris provide daily international links, and UPS Airlines has a decent cargo presence.
Although fairly restricted for photography, you can see most movements from the top floor of the parking garage outside Terminal A.
Another good San Jose spotting location is Guadeloupe Park to the southeast of the airport. This park running next to the river. It has various paths running through and any aircraft landing from the south will pass overhead. Find a gap in the trees for photographs.
Here’s a fantastic video of the action at San Jose airport showing the types of aircraft you can expect to see, and the layout of the field. It was shot from the Terminal A car park viewing location, and the side of Coleman Ave to the south-east of the airport.

Hi Matt – there is a car park just off Coleman Avenue (opposite the Starbucks and In ‘n’ Out Burger). You could also view from the car park next to these restaurants although it would not be good for photos (or your waist!!).
Thanks Colin!
