Embraer Delivers First E2 to Widerøe

Widerøe has become the first airline to receive the brand new Embraer E2 aircraft at a ceremony in São José dos Campos, Brazil.

In front of Embraer employees and executives the aircraft, registered LN-WEA, was rolled out in its white and green livery.

The Norwegian airline has chosen the E190-E2, which is the first variant of the modified and upgraded E-Jet family, following on from the success of the E170 to E195 family.

Scandinavia’s largest regional airline, operating more than 450 daily flights, Widerøe has to date only operated turboprop aircraft. The delivery of the jet E2 marks a focus on adding capacity to the airline’s fleet. Configured in a single-class 114 seat layout, the airline has three E2s on order, with options on a further 12. 

“The E190-E2 is an impressive aircraft. It is the ideal airplane for Widerøe as we introduce jets for the first time in the company’s 84-year history,” said Stein Nilsen, Chief Executive Officer of Widerøe. “I am convinced our passengers are going to love the cabin, our operations people are going to embrace the new technology, while our financial collaborators will appreciate the economics the aircraft permits. I believe everyone is going to celebrate with, as the launch customer, the fact that we are the first airline to fly the world’s most environmentally-friendly airplane. With the lowest noise and emissions among aircraft in its category.”

The E190-E2 received Type Certification on February 28. It features new ultra-high bypass ratio engines and a completely new wing and landing gear. Compared to the first-generation E190, 75% of the aircraft systems are new. Embraer recently announced some final flight tests results confirming the E2 as the most efficient single-aisle aircraft on the market.

Delivery Flight

LN-WEA will begin its delivery flight on 9 April. Its routing will be from São José dos Campos (SJK) to Recife.

Then, it will fly to Las Palmas and Aberdeen, before arriving in Bergen on 12 April.

Entry Into Service

Widerøe expects the E190-E2 to enter service on 24th April between Bergen and Tromsø.
